How often should I refresh my waxing?
The short answer: Hair removal maintenance sessions are typically between 4-6 weeks, although others can go longer between, depending on your growth cycle.
The long answer: The hair growth cycle is about 12 weeks - the slowest hair growth rate in the entire body. This is why when things go wrong, it’s “not just hair” because it takes time (and just might not grow back). The cycle has three phases:
Phase 1: Anagen | The hair follicle is active and the root divides quickly, adding hair to the shaft. This phase determines the length of the hair, lasting between 30-45 days.
Phase 2: Catagen | A short period at the end of anagen where the hair is cut off from the blood supply, shrinking the hair follicle. This can be a shedding period.
Phase 3: Telogen | The resting period that can last between 2-4 months. It does not grow and remains inactive until the capillaries in the dermal papilla reactivate into Anagen.
With the understanding of our growth cycle we can pay attention to when we are have new growth and shedding periods. We want to train each hair to follow it’s natural cycle. If there has been damage to the follicle, little new growth happens. Regular tweezing gets the schedule off track and you are now on the hamster wheel.
Retire your tweezers in between sessions. This ensures your hair will be on the same cycle and stops new growth popping up at different rates. There is also less chances of the wrong hair continuously being over tweezed and your shape goals in tact.
Prebook your next session. It will give you accountability and motivation to leave your tweezers alone, sticking to our plan.
